How to get rid of the shortcut virus on a removable drive or memory card

One of the most annoying viruses giong around is the shortcut virus.
This virus turns everything on your pen drive or memory card to shortcuts.
Worry no more, the soluton is here.

A key thing to note is that this virus runs on the infected computer, not on the removable drive.
This is why any attempts to format the flash disk are usually futile.

Steps to remove the virus:
1. Install Avast antivirus and update its definitions.
2. Run a full scan on the infected computer. This will detect the viruses.
3. Delete the detected viruses.
4. Scan your removable media and delete the viruses.

Steps to recover hidden data after virus removal:
1. Open command prompt.
2. Assuming your flash disk is assigned the letter G, type G: and hit enter.
3. Type the following command:
    attrib  -s  -h  * . *  /s  /d
4. Close  command prompt and open the flash disk normally.
5. Now you should see the items alongside their shortcuts.
6. Delete the shortcuts.

How to run Samsung Easy settings on windows 8.1 or windows 10 preview

After hours of web searches and trial and error, I finally found a way to run Samsung's Easy settings on my samsung laptop. The easy settings program is responsible for the functionality of the Fn keys.
These adjust volume, brightness and other key functions.

When trying to install the settings program, one is met with the error that the program is incompatible. However, there is a workaround for this:

1. Download the easy settings setup.
2. Rename the setup application to setup1.exe
3. Install easy settings.
4. Right click on the Easy settings shortcut on the desktop. Choose 'Troubleshoot compatibility'.
5. Set to windows 7. Test the program and save the settings.
6. Enjoy!!!

Please comment in case of any challenges.
